     The Associate  Medical Director is responsible for the medical components of the Hospice Program.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    • Assures appropriate evaluation and certification of terminal prognosis of patients, the quality of initial and ongoing plans of care.
    • Reviews revocations, recertifications of terminal prognosis.
    • Monitors the quality of pain and symptom management.
    • Provides medical expertise on pain and symptom management to clinical staff.
    • Interacts with attending physicians as needed regarding pain and symptom management issues and issues involving patient prognosis.
    • Makes patient visits based on patient need and as determined by the plan of care.

    Qualifications

    • Doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy with a license to practice medicine in ME.
    • Board certified in Hospice & Palliative Medicine by an American Board of Medical Specialties approved board examination or the equivalent.
    • Experience in the care of terminally ill patients through successful completion of a hospice/palliative medicine fellowship training program or at least 2 years experience in a medical specialty dealing with terminally ill patients.
    • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and function as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with referring, primary, and consulting physicians to provide appropriate palliative care at the end of life.
