    This role will function in a fast paced and high exposure environment acting as the primary contact, externally and internally, and subject matter expert performing timely and accurate verification of insurance and benefit eligibility of new and established patients. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to reporting, resolving discrepancies, coordinating with case managers, and having heavy contact with external stakeholders.

    Responsibilities

    • Accurately verify patient insurance and benefit eligibility prior to patients coming onto services.
    • Responsible for ongoing reverifications of insurances to ensure patients maintain eligibility and coverage.
    • Research, follow up and resolve open & pending authorizations in a timely manner
    • Assist with estimates of patient out-of-pocket expenses for services.
    • Contact patients or designee regarding financial obligations.
    • Documents activity in the patient accounts.
    • Maintain clear communication and provide timely updates to all stakeholders involved.
    • Knowledge and understanding of payor reimbursement policies.
    • Ensures compliance within guidelines set forth by regulatory agencies and demonstrates compliance with Home Health Foundation policies and procedures.
    • Practices confidentiality principles set by the agency and federal HIPAA guidelines.
    • Participates in all mandatory and assigned trainings.
    • Completes other duties as assigned and to support foundation.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 1 year of insurance verification experience, health education, patient navigation, and/or health clinic patient assistance field.
    • Knowledge and understanding of hospice care, including but not limited to understanding of levels of care, basic clinical patient requirements and applicable Medicare and Medicaid regulations.  
    • Intermediate experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook.
    • Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 Coding.
    • Strong understanding of benefits including; deductibles, co-insurance, out of pocket expense & benefit exclusions.
    • Ability to effectively handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
    • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Ability to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.
