    The Physical Therapist Assistant is a member of the health care team who provides rehabilitation services to individuals and families in the community.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides quality care for patients and families receiving therapy services.
    • Follows the established plan of care and notifies primary clinician or area manager in a timely manner if revision is recommended.
    • Maintains effective working relationships with patients/families, referral sources, physicians, community resources and insurance representatives.
    • Provides adequate training of patients and families. Assists with training of new therapist assistant staff. 
    • Keeps current with clinical practice, community health and reimbursement issues through journals, seminars, courses and networking.
    • Takes initiative in self-growth and professional development.
    • Complies with regulations (Medicare, Medicaid, DPH, OSHA, JCAHO, State and Federal regulations) and agency policies and procedures.
    • Maintains accessible, clearly documented medical records and agency paperwork that     meet the requirements for legal purposes, insurance reimbursement and continuity of care.
    • Provides for appropriate coverage of patients on caseload. Assists with coverage of patients when the primary nurse is absent.
    • Ensures patients are scheduled for visits appropriately. Maintains accurate schedule in hand held computer.
    • Ensures customer satisfaction and effective communication patterns.
    • Uses available resources (e.g. Language Line and written materials) to assure culturally competent or culturally sensitive care and communication is provided to patients and families.

     

    Qualifications

    • Graduation from an approved physical therapist assistant program. 
    • Licensed in Massachusetts and New Hampshire (or willingness to obtain). 
    • At least one year's experience as a registered clinician in a rehabilitiation or acute care setting. 
    • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and well organized. 
    • Ability to bend, lift and assist with transfers and ambulation of disabled patients. 
    • Seeks supervision and consultation appropriately. 
    • Takes initiative in pursuing educational and professional opportunities.
